Tonight, Sunday July 31, Echoes of Indiana Avenue showcases legendary Naptown musician Sarah McLawler.
Producer Kyle Long states the program will include an hour of music from Sarah McLawler, including her early work with the all-female quartet The Syncoettes, and her later recordings with violinist Richard Otto.
Long writes, “McLawler grew up in Indianapolis, studying music at Crispus Attucks High School, and the Jordan Conservatory. During her extraordinary career, McLawler had success as a vocalist, and jazz organist. In fact, McLawer was among the first wave of jazz musicians to perform on the organ.”
Produced by Cultural Manifesto host Kyle Long and narrated by musician Herman "Butch" Slaughter, Echoes of Indiana Avenue is an audio documentary focused on the cultural achievements of Black artists and musicians from Central Indiana.
