Naptown’s own Valerie Phelps is a wife, mother, star vocalist and promoter and you can catch her in performance at The Jazz Kitchen Sunday, May 8. (The perfect Mother’s Day gift! Tickets: www.thejazzkitchen.com)
She shared her thoughts about working Mother’s Day.
“What is special about this Mother’s Day for me? This Mother's Day is special because it feels like a new beginning. For the past few years, our moms and families have gone thru many hardships due to the pandemic.
We are finally able to celebrate again, in public. This is our time to honor moms' present and past for their strength and courage.
Do I mind working that day as a professional singer? Not at all; it is an honor to share the love, encouragement, and gifts with my fellow moms. I was created for this. Be prepared to laugh, cry and expect to be uplifted. I have also invited two guest
artists, Bashiri Asad and Jon Harris, one per set to serenade the ladies. Get ready for a jazzy-soul-inspirational mix.
This performance is an emotional crescendo for me.
I will be singing from the heart to encourage and uplift those present.
I have accomplished many career highs, including an inauguration for our
state officials, Rose Awards, Black Expo, and more, but this is the most important event of the year for me.”
